We decided it had been too long since we got out of town, so we grabbed an AirBNB, and headed North. The Lowell Observatory was our first stop, and a wonderful experience despite the weather. Neither of us had been before, and were delighted by the telescopes and various exhibits. Cloud coverage made it hard to see anything other than planets and all but the brightest stars.
Before calling it a night, we grabbed quick bite to eat at SoSoBa Noodle Shop. In the morning, we went out for a huge breakfast at The Place. She is the only girl I’ve ever known who’s appetite can keep up with my own, and I love her for it!
Afterwards we set out for Humphreys Peak but her little car didn’t have the guts to make it through these forest roads. We ended up circling back to Sandy Seep, and wound up on the Arizona Trail. Unbeknownst to us, the trail stretches up into Utah. We didn’t figure it out until we were miles in, and the rain finally started coming down.
One last stop for a late lunch at the Historic Brewing Barrel & Bottle House before making the two hour drive home through the rain. We were both wonderfully exhausted at the end of it all.
